Corporate Crime Can Be Murder |

BIO
Here’s the “official” story:
“Brian Lutterman is the author of Bound To Die and Poised To Kill. He is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and Georgetown University Law Center. He has practiced law in Chicago and Minneapolis, and served as president of a small health organization. He currently lives in the Twin Cities with his wife, son, and daughter.”
Okay, are we asleep yet? Let’s try again. Here’s the biography I submitted for last year’s Mayhem in the Midlands conference:
“Brian Lutterman does not own a minivan, nor do his children actually play soccer. Lacking these essentials, Brian relies on cub scouts, band practice, and plenty of diaper changes to establish his bona fides as a suburban Mr. Mom. In 2001 he entered a contest, submitting not a recipe for strawberry fudge cake but a manuscript for a mystery novel. The winning result is called Bound to Die, published by Salvo Press. A second novel, Poised to Kill, was written on a Palm Pilot in between loads of laundry and during piano lessons, and released by Salvo Press in 2004.
Brian’s journey to these lofty heights began with his upbringing on a southwestern Minnesota farm, where he walked five miles, barefoot, through the snow, uphill both ways, to a one-room country school. From there, it was only a short jump to becoming a trial lawyer in Chicago, and a corporate attorney in Minneapolis. Both experiences, while rewarding, lacked excitement and suspense, making the term “legal thriller” an oxymoron. The business world, however, was different.
Brian’s sleuth, Hal Dwyer, is a consultant who ferrets out wrongdoing in the upper reaches of American corporations. This setting provides an abundant supply of greed, treachery, fraud, and, yes, murder.”
That pretty much says it all. But just to show what a fascinating, quirky guy I am, I’m including a few more fun facts about myself:
Birthdate: During the Eisenhower Administration.
Birthplace: Tracy, Minnesota, a town with a functioning hospital and an actual stoplight. Or is it an actual hospital and a functioning stoplight?
Favorite bookstore: any store that will carry my books. Actually, it’s Once Upon a Crime in Minneapolis.
Favorite food: anything.
Favorite TV show: none.
Dream job: My current “job,” minus the diaper changes.
Fantasy job: General Manager of the Minnesota Twins.
Scariest trial lawyer experience: The time I sued a guy in Chicago, who was then found murdered in the trunk of a car. It turned out he was working for the Outfit (Mafia). I started valet-parking my car after that.
Favorite gadget: Palm Pilots. I’ve written most of three books on them.
Favorite thing about Minnesota: the wind chill
Favorite car I’ve owned: A '72 Vega. I left the keys in it for 6 months on the streets of Washington, D.C., but nobody would steal it.
Ask me about: The time a PBS crew spent an hour in my home, taking film of me sleeping. |
